Dental Emergency - Toothache

The first step is to call us right away so we can schedule an appointment as soon as possible. With a specific exam and usually an x-ray, we can determine the cause of the pain and give treatment options. To ease your pain before you see us, you can take an over-the-counter pain remedy to help make you more comfortable and you can also try holding an ice pack in the area of your face where you are experiencing pain.

Chipped or Broken Teeth

Again, your first step is to call us for an appointment right away. Depending on severity, a broken or chipped tooth can be saved. All treatment options will be discussed with you prior to treatment and Dr. McKee will help you determine the best individualized plan to help you. If it's a small break, a white filling can be used. Larger breaks may require a root canal or a crown to repair the damaged tooth, but that would be determined after Dr. McKee has completed a specific exam.

Teeth Problem

Knocked Out Tooth

If you lose a permanent (adult tooth), call us immediately as time is crucial. If you can find the tooth, gently pick it up while avoiding touching the root. The best thing you can do is give it a quick, gentle rinse under cold water and try to place the tooth back in the spot where it came from. If this is not possible, place it in cold milk, or even better, in your mouth tucked beside your cheek. Do not place it in water. Sometimes a tooth that has been knocked out can be put back by the dentist if the tooth is kept safe, has an intact root and is done very quickly.

Lost Filling

Lost Filling

Lost fillings can often leave sharp edges than can cut the tongue or cheek. If possible, try to place a piece of softened sugar-free gum in the spot where the filling was lost. This can help protect the area for a short time. Call us right away for an appointment so we can determine the best treatment before the problem gets worse.
